Building 3D shapes with room 10

Today we looked at 3D shapes, our teacher gave us cards with the shapes outlined on the card. We had to color them neatly then cut them out and this is what I built, a triangular prism.

How to make a raised bed

For a 4-by-8-foot bed, you’ll need

• Two 2-by-12 planks, each 8 feet long

• Two 2-by-12 planks, each 4 feet long

• 12 pieces of rebar, each 2 feet long

• A rubber mallet

• Newspaper or cardboard

• Soil to fill the finished frame

Steps:

1. Position your boards.

On a level section of ground, lay the boards down with their inner corners touching. Stand one long board on its side, and, using a rubber mallet, hammer two pieces of rebar 1 foot from each corner, a few inches deep into the ground.

2. Prop up the short sides.

Use a piece of rebar at the center of each for temporary support. Next, prop up the second long side and adjust the alignment of your frame as necessary. Then hammer rebar a few inches deep 1 foot from each corner of the second long side.

3. Add more support.

Hammer rebar a few inches deep a foot from each corner of the short sides and remove the temporary supports. Add two pieces of rebar 2 feet apart along each long side. These will reinforce the frame when it’s filled with soil. Then hammer in the rebar until 6 to 10 inches are exposed above ground.

4. Fill it up.

Line the bottom of your frame with newspaper or cardboard and wet it thoroughly. Finally, fill your bed with soil to within a few inches of the top.

Water fun day

On a bright Wednesday morning, Glenbrae school had its water fun day.I was so excited because my mum bought me a Kauri t-shirt for my house color, green.

For our first activity we had Sponge Bob Square Pants with Mrs. Ripata. We had to dip a sponge into a bucket of water and run with it to our house bucket that was placed on the Basketball court and squeeze the water into it. This activity was a lot of fun but tiring at the asme time.

Next, we went to the school swimming pool. The pool was Mrs. Patia’s idea. She even let us go into the pool with our wet clothes on. We played with the noodle toys that were outside the pool so we could float around.

The third was Holey Moley that was with Mr. Nath. when you fill the cup with water, the water starts pouring because there are holes on the side of each cup.

Fourth, was the water balloons, that's what Ms Smith was doing.First we had to pass the water balloon to the person in front of you, then that person runs to the back of the line,we keep passing until our team reaches the cone, once the same person standing in front the line comes back then that passing person

Sixth was lava flow, what we got to do was fill an empty yogurt with water and hop into the two hula hoops in front of you, then you start to sprint around the cone and run up to the our house bucket.

Then, the water slide, all we had to do was get into a straight line, the person in the front had to fill whatever was in the half sized bucket full of water. As soon Ms AutoHave shouted go,we ran like we never ran before, sliding down the waterslide and sprinting to the our house bucket.

That was a fun experience, having fun with new kids that enrolled in Glenbrae school.I hope we could do that with big and fun ideas.

x

Hi, my name is Maryanne. My first day at school made me
nervous because of the new people I had to work with, but because of the teacher I got used to it and made good friends.

This year I am in room 10 and my teacher is Mr Nath.
I am a year 6 now. I am very happy to be in room 10 because of the students' positive attitude.

My goals for this year are to get better at sports, writing and maths.

I would also like to join the netball team for this year.
